Hidden

Hidden amongst the leaves of a fig tree, a young girl watches as the people in her street busily go about their day, disappearing into their homes or cars without looking up. She tries to get their attention but no-one notices. She comes up with a clever idea that involves generosity, kindness and a lot of figs!

"What a charming and healing book is Hidden.

Ferenchuk’s tender text observes the often detached ‘islands’ of urban life in the street where the little protagonist's neighbours live their busy lives in isolation. But the little girl, hiding in a giant fig tree, always watching, has a simple solution. West’s energetic mixed-media and collage illustrations are whimsical and lively, striking just the right tone to harmonise with the writer’s voice, — a successful collaboration, where writer and illustrator alike stay true to their readers.

Of course, the story ends joyously — the kind of satisfying ending that every young child will approve of. A gorgeous and sincere picture book made with heart that never descends into cliché or sentimentality. Lovely."

The Donkey
Diaries

This series began during therapy as a way to manage anxiety around flying. A grounding statistic shared by my therapist—that I was more likely to be kicked by a donkey than experience a plane accident—inspired the contemplative Donkey character. First created through collage and later developed in needle-felt, Donkey became the starting point for a wider series of contemplative, whimsical figures.
